US Green Building Council: Pilot Credit 55, LEED v4.1 Bird Collision Deterrence (Voluntary)

  • A rating system created to reduce bird injury and mortality from in-flight collisions with buildings.

  • LEED’s Bird Collision Deterrence requirements have been integrated into many local policies.

  • New Construction, Core & Shell, schools, retail, healthcare must comply with at least one of the Building Façade options, one of the Interior Lighting options, one of the Exterior Lighting options and a Post-Construction Monitoring Plan.

  • The monitoring plan assesses the effectiveness of the preventative measures in the building façade design strategy.

  • The credit-based system rewards adherence to the green behaviour + bird conservation efforts, providing an incentive for building owners and businesses.
