Bird-Friendly Guidelines (Voluntary)
- Advises planners, architects, builders, and homeowners on how to reduce bird collisions and incorporate sustainable, bird-friendly practices.
- Goals include increasing visibility of glass on appropriate “buildings, walkways, bus shelters, balconies, guardrails and patios,” and reduce deadly reflections.
- Use visual markers “placed no more than 10 cm - approximately a hand’s width - apart.” And ensure that horizontal spacing “is a minimum of 3 cm wide spaced at a maximum of 3 cm, or a minimum of 5 mm wide spaced at a maximum of 5 cm apart.”
- Additional solutions include window mullions, glass dampening, reduced attractants, like greenery and minimizing light pollution.
